week 17

I am so saving thins bright orange #pumpkin !Next week I should have one more and we will do some October crafts with it!

The black berries are Aronia - surprise of this week. They are not easy to eat as is, but extremely good for you! It can help with blood pressure, great any-oxidant and full of vitamins! I am more familiar with its orange sister - berries from mountain-ash. And these lose it's bitter taste if picked after the first frost, not sure about Aronia berries. Either way, I mad jam with apples.

The fall is here! So is the fall nature's gifts.

Week 14

With the new school year started, my kids are getting very healthy lunches!

Got our first cauliflower. We all it both ways - as is and steamed. Have to figure out what to do with acorn squash... I think I remember a very nice picture of it baked. Have to find it thought...

And this huge eggplant! It's almost a kilo! Combined it with the eggplant from last week (yes, it's still good, nothing happened to it in the fridge. How long do you think it takes for a grocery store to get one to you from a farmer?). Cut in pieces, season and on the grill it goes.

Week 13

I must admit, pickling onions (or pearl onion) is not something I buy at a store. So I had no idea what to do with it, other than, as the name suggests - pickle. But for a dozen of these little guys, I am not getting out my pickling gear!

A friend suggested  Beef Bourgunion and it was a great idea! Took some time, but was worth it.

Now if I can only figure out what to do with this eggplant... hmm... Too bad I have only one, not enough for a side dish...

Week 11

Ah! Prunes are in season! Love them!

Discovery of the week - purple bell pepper. Not as sweet and a bit less tender, but otherwise - is about the same as regular pepper

Fava beans didn't capture my heart. Can't be eaten with pods and to get a decent amount for, say soup, you need lots of them and lot's of time to get beans out of the pods.
